To explore the ruins of the Fortress of Paramonga, it's best to base yourself at BARRANCA , 7km before the fortress, where there are a few simple hotels and two or three places to eat. The Hotel Jefferson, at Jiron Lima 946 ($5-10), is cheap and quite comfortable, or there's the basic Hostal Colon, Jiron Galvez 407 (up to $5). The best place to eat is at the excellent Chinese restaurant on the main street. Nearly all buses and colectivos on their way between Lima and Trujillo or Huaraz stop at Barranca.
