Most people travelling along the Ancash coast between Lima and Trujillo do the whole trip in a single eight-hour bus ride along the Panamerican Highway. If you're short of time you'll probably want to do the same, but it's worth at least considering a stop at the small beach resort of Barranca or the farming and fishing villages of Casma or Chimbote - all three of which have some intriguing archeological sites nearby, as well as offering alternative routes up into the Callejon de Huaylas . Facilities for tourists are hardly overwhelming, and the towns themselves have developed as road- and seaside urban sprawls, but the zone is relatively well serviced.
