At PUNTA CORMORANT , on the northernmost tip of Floreana, you'll land by panga on a beach made green from deposits of the mineral olivine, a complex silicate of magnesium and iron. If you're expecting to see cormorants here, you'll be disappointed, but a trail to the lagoon behind the mangroves will introduce you to a variety of wading birds, including ruddy turnstones, whimbrels, stilts, white-cheeked pintails and phalaropes : above all, though, this is the best place in the islands to see flamingos . Around this site are two species of plant found nowhere else in the world, the cutleaf daisy ( Leocarpus pinnafitidus ) and a type of scalesia . The trail then passes a viewpoint looking out to a tuff cone, and finishes at Flour Beach , so-called for its very fine, white sand of ground coral. Marine turtles nest here, but it's better known for the schools of stingrays that settle in the shallows. You can't swim here, but opposite Punta Cormorant is Devil's Crown (also called Isla Onslow), a submerged cone sheltering beautiful coral reefs from the currents outside, which makes for excellent snorkelling and scuba diving. In addition to reef fish such as surgeonfish, angelfishc, parrotfish and wrasse , you have a chance of meeting white-tipped reef sharks , and even hammerheads .
