RABIDA is less than 5km south of Santiago and under five square kilometres in area. A wet landing at the north of the island onto a russet, sea lion-strewn beach brings you to a trail leading through saltbush to a saline lagoon. Pelicans sometimes build nests in the saltbush, while white-cheeked pintails , bachelor sea lions , and stilts are residents of the lagoon. You see the odd flamingo sifting the murky waters for food here too. A path rises up through palo santo and Opuntia cacti to a viewpoint above the carmine cliffs. There's good snorkelling near the cliffs or alternatively at the landing beach and plenty of colourful fish to see, as well as diving boobies and pelicans .
