The northeastern extremity of San Cristobal is rarely visited by the tour boats. After a wet landing into a tight sandy cove, a fairly strenuous trail leads between thorny scrub and tuff cones, climbing to a pass with panoramic views. The real treat of Punta Pitt is that it's the only place in the Galapagos where all three species of booby are seen together. The red-footed boobies cling to muyuyo trees, while the blue-footed boobies mark their patches on the ground with a ring of guano. The masked boobies prefer spots closer to the cliffs, and frigate bird nests are also found in the palo santo . A trailhead west of Punta Pitt leads to La Galapaguera after about ninety-minutes' hike, a good place to see giant tortoises in the wild. Unless your tour boat is stopping here, the only way to visit Punta Pitt and La Galapaguera is to arrange a tour and guide with one of the travel agents in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno .
