San Jose Driving

Driving

Though it's a bad idea to rent a car for getting around San Jose, you may need one for driving out of the city. Cars should never be left on the street anywhere near the city centre, since they are guaranteed to be broken into or stolen. Secure parqueos (guarded parking lots) dot the city; some are 24-hour, but most close at 8 or 8.30pm. If you have to leave your car on the street, look for the local security guard (they carry truncheons); and pay him 300 colones to guard it.
