Taxis
Taxis are cheap and plentiful, even at odd hours of the night and early morning. Licensed vehicles are red with a yellow triangle on the side, and have "SJP" ("San Jose Publico") licence plates. A ride anywhere within the city will cost US$1-1.50, and about double that to get out to the suburbs. The starter fare - about US$0.50 - is shown on the red digital display; make sure the meter is on before you start (ask the driver to toca la maria, por favor ). Tipping is not expected.
