San Jose Buses

Buses

Fast, cheap and frequent buses connect the centre of the city with virtually all of San Jose's neighbourhoods and suburbs; they generally run from 5am until 10pm. Bus stops in the city centre area seem to change every year. Currently, most buses to San Pedro, Tres Rios and other points east leave from the stretch of Avenida Central between C 5 and C 15. You can pick up buses for Paseo Colon and Parque Sabana (labelled "Sabana-Cementerio") at the bus shelters on Av 2, C 5/7. At some point, the city

authorities are hoping to move the bus stops out of the centre proper in order to cut traffic and pollution.

All buses have their routes clearly marked on their windshields, and usually the fare too. These are payable either to the driver or conductor when you board and are usually 60 colones (US$0.25), though the faster, more comfortable busetas de lujo (luxury buses) to the suburbs cost upwards of 80 colones (US$0.4). Bus drivers or conductors always have lots of change.
