Telephone Number Changes In Rio
At the time of writing, telephone numbers in the city and state of Rio de Janeiro were in a state of flux. All local numbers will eventually have an extra digit inserted in front of the existing seven-digit number, but this process will not be complete until the end of 2001 and, at the time of writing, only some of the new numbers had been announced. Throughout this section any eight-digit numbers listed are correct; seven-digit numbers will also have changed by the end of 2001 and when you dial them you'll receive a message (in Portuguese) telling you which additional digit to insert
