Practicalities
Ferries for Paqueta leave from near Rio's Praca XV de Novembro, Centro, take eighty minutes and cost $1.50. The hydrofoil takes just half an hour and costs around $5 on weekdays and $8 at weekends. If you want to stay over, there are a few pleasant small hotels , the cheapest being the Paqueta at Praca Bom Jesus 15 (tel 021/3397-0052; $10-20). More expensive, but with air-conditioning, are the Lido, Praia Jose Bonifacio 59 (tel 021/3397-0377; $20-35), and, the largest on the island, the Flamboyant at Praia Grossa 58 (tel 021/397-0028; $20-35). There's a tourist office on Praia Jose Bonifacio, near the intersection with Rua Manuel de Macedo, on the opposite side of the island from the ferry landing.
