Sabara's main church, Nossa Senhora da Conceicao (Tues-Sat 9am-noon & 1.30-5.30pm, Sun 9am-1pm & 3-5pm) is on Praca Getulio Vargas, signposted from Praca Santa Rita. Started by the Jesuits in 1720, it's a fine example of the so-called first and second phases of Minas Baroque. Succeeding generations added features to the original layout and inside it's extremely impressive, with a double row of heavily carved and gilded arches, a beautifully decorated ceiling and, once again, Chinese influence in the gildings and painted panels of the door leading to the sacristy.
