Over 100km to the north of the Chapada are the cave systems of Terra Ronca and Sao Domingos. Terra Ronca has a mouth opening over 90m high and 120m wide and can be penetrated for almost 6km, at times with virtual hills inside vast caverns. The Sao Domingos complex includes more than twenty limestone caves. In 1972, yet another magnificent cave, the Caverna Angelica Bezerra, was discovered in the region. Buses from Alto Paraiso will take you to the small towns of Monte Alegre or Campos Belos where you can rent a pick-up with driver and guide out to the caves (this is likely to cost anything from $40 a day upwards). Be warned that the last 38km to Terra Ronca is a very bumpy dirt track. It's very early days tourism-wise and, all in all, it's probably best to see the caves as part of a tour; try the agencies in Goiania.
