Within Brazil, the state of Goias is gaining a reputation as a major ecotourism destination and the Parque Nacional Chapada dos Veadeiros , in the north of the state, has long been recognized as a significant site of natural beauty. Meaning "Deer Mountains" (named after the commonly spotted veado-campeiro wild deer), the thousand-metre-high Chapada dos Veadeiros is the source of both the Tocantins and Parana rivers. Magnificent waterfalls can be seen at the Cachoeiras de Rio Preto, and armadillos, anteaters, wild pigs, capibaras and guara wolves still abound, while to the north of the park are the spectacular cave systems of Terra Ronca and Sao Domingos. The stunning scenery, wild and sparse vegetation, cave systems and river rapids of this area have brought peace and enlightenment seekers from all over Brazil and even further afield in more recent years. A number of alternative communities have been set up in this region where there are regular UFO sightings.
