One of the town's main outdoor features, the Jardim Zoologico (Tues-Sun 8am-5pm; $1), located some nine long blocks west along Avenida Anhanguera from the Teatro Goianio, is a pleasant and well-managed public park. It's focused at its northern end around the muddy Lago das Rosas, home to a number of semi-tame monkeys, while the southern corner houses a large and well-stocked zoo, which is a must for anyone going on to the Goias sertao, the Mato Grosso or the Amazon in search of wildlife. You'll see emas (rheas), tuiuius (red-throated storks) and jacares (alligators) closer here than you will in the wild.
