Just two blocks due west of the Centro Civico lies the Bosque dos Buritis (daily 9am-6pm). The woods are spread over 140,000 square metres and contain a huge water-jet fountain as well as the free and reasonably interesting Museu de Arte , Rua 1, #605, Sector Oeste (Tues-Sun 8am-6pm), which has paintings of the city and stone sculptures on display. For a better selection of both Brazilian and international paintings with a faster-changing range of exhibits, try the recently refurbished Museu de Arte Contemporanea , lost in the concrete depths of the city's business heart in the Parthenon Centre, Rua 4, #515 (Tues-Fri 8am-6pm). Over in Praca Civica, the Galeria Frei Confaloni is a small gallery displaying contemporary works by mainly local artists. Entry is free but the door is difficult to find around the back of the Centro Cultural building. Just a few yards away, the Museu Zoroastro Artiaga , Praca Civica 13 (Tues-Fri 9am-5pm, Sat, Sun & holidays 9am-noon & 2-4pm), exhibits mainly historical objects, crafts and art from the region, but also houses roaming exhibitions, sometimes of ethnographic interest. Goiania's other museums include, in the east of the downtown area, the anthropological museum, the Museu Antropologogico , Praca Universitaria 1166 (signposted "Instituto de Artes & Escritorio Tecnico Administrativo"; Tues-Fri 9am-5pm), where enthusiasts will find a surprisingly wide range of traditional indigenous handicrafts and, nearby, the less interesting archeological museum, the Museu Goiano de Pre-Historia e Arqueologia , Praca Universitaria 1440 (Mon-Fri 8-11am & 1-5pm); both museums can be reached on buses #167, #170, #164 or #162. If you're en route for some ecotourism and birdwatching in Goias or the Mato Grosso, the Museu Ornitologia , Av. Para 395, Setor Campinas (daily 8am-10pm), which displays around six thousand stuffed birds, may hold greater charm.
