The tail end of Brasilia's layout provides less gripping an attraction, though there are several places you'll want to visit on any extended stay in the city. The Torre de Televisao (TV Tower), at Eixo Monumental, Setor Oeste, is an obvious city landmark and easily reached on foot or by bus (the #131 from the Rodoviaria). The 218-metre-high tower's viewing platform (Tues-Sun 9am-9pm) is a great place from which to get Brasilia into perspective. Lower down, above its weird concrete supports, is the Museu Nacional das Gemas (Tues-Fri 3-8.30pm, Sat & Sun 10.30am-6.30pm; $1), which is actually little more than a glorified and quite expensive gem shop. At the weekend, the tower is also popular for its craft market, held around the base. If you're so inclined, the Planetarium , on Eixo Monumental at the side of the Centro de Convencoes, is a relatively short walk from the TV Tower, but it's only open on Saturdays and Sundays, at 4.20pm for children ($1) and 5.20pm for adults ($2); weekdays are reserved for school groups. Also close to the convention centre, but on the western side, is the famous Juscelino Kubitschek (JK) Memorial (Tues-Sun 9am-5.45pm), the statue standing inside an enormous question mark. More interesting than the monument itself is the museum below, covering both the history of Brasilia and Kubitschek's life, with some fascinating photographs and documentary records. A little stroll to the north of Eixo Monumental from the JK Monument brings you to the Palacio do Buriti , administrative seat of the Federal District, set in its own little square with pretty illuminated fountains. Finally, if you're tired of contending with so much concrete and traffic, you might appreciate the city park, Parque Rogerio Pithon Farias , south of the TV Tower. There's a heated public swimming pool, a boating lake, snack bar and woods. You can get there on bus #152 from the Rodoviaria, or from the JK Memorial by walking back towards the Rodoviaria - it's signposted on the right 300-400m to the east. From the entrance it's a good two-kilometre walk through a relatively barren section of the park to the main recreation zone.
