South America's largest oceanarium and one of the few in the world to have killer whales, Mundo Marino (Jan & Feb daily 10am-10pm; March, Nov & Dec daily 10am-7pm; April-June & Aug Mon & Thurs-Sun 10am-6pm; July, Sept & Oct daily 10am-6pm; ticket office closes up to 3 hours before park; $7) is publicized the length and breadth of Argentina. San Clemente's biggest attraction may, however, turn out to be its biggest disappointment. The oceanarium's self-proclaimed conservation mission sits uneasily with the circus-like shows that constitute its primary attraction, whilst the sight of the majestic killer whale enclosed in a large swimming pool is frankly depressing. To be fair, the shows are the only way Mundo Marino can finance its activities and are hugely popular with visiting families, but unless you have small children to entertain, the whole thing is probably best avoided. To get to Mundo Marino, which lies around 10km northwest of the town centre, take local bus #500 or #532 from outside the service station on the corner of San Martin and Calle 1. Just outside Mundo Marino and sitting rather uneasily next to its glitzy neighbour lies San Clemente's charmingly ramshackle port area , little more than a modest quay and gaggle of fishing boats. The main reason to visit the port is to try freshly caught grey mullet at any one of the friendly local restaurants, most of which have outside seating where you can watch your fish being prepared and cooked on the barbecue.
