A small and tranquil village, set amongst pine forests and low dunes, PEHUEN-CO , some 20km south of Monte Hermoso, is one of the more attractive southern beach resorts. Its irregular, undulating streets are largely unsealed and the fine five-kilometre beach is separated from the village by dunes. Pehuen-Co is a good place just to relax for a few days - though if you fancy some gentle activity, there's horseriding, from Calle Fragata Sarmiento, to the east of the centre. Bikes can also be rented. Fournier operates a daily bus service to Pehuen-Co from Bahia Blanca, dropping you on the corner of avenidas Almirante G. Brown and 9 de Julio, four blocks east of the resort's main street, Avenida San Martin. There are only a handful of hotels in the village; top of the range is the Cumelcan , down on the seafront at the end of Av. San Martin (tel 02921/497048; $30-45). A few blocks back from the beach you'll find the Hospedaje Anay-Co , Calle Fragata Sarmiento 839 (no phone; $25). There's a good municipal campsite in the village's small forestal reserve, the Bosque Encantado which lies about ten blocks west of Avenida San Martin. Pehuen-Co's simple eating and drinking options are mostly based around Avenida Almirante G. Brown; try also La Barraca bar and restaurant on the beach one block west of the bottom of Avenida Almirante G. Brown.
