In contrast to the obvious charms of the Eastern Rim, the drier Western Rim is mainly given over to open eucalypt woods, with the steep peaks covered in heath. With few facilities, it's a place for serious bushwalkers; on weekends you're likely to meet other hikers at the campsites, but the best way to explore is with a bushwalking club . Even "easy" routes are fairly demanding, with few neat paths or signposts - so come equipped, don't walk alone, and carry plenty of water. Access is along the Cunningham and Mount Lindesay highways from Boonah or Beaudesert in the east and Warwick from the west; there's no public transport.
