One hundred and twenty kilometres inland from the coast's jangling excesses, the Scenic Rim forms a barrier between the coastal flatlands and the pastoral Darling Downs, encompassing a series of mountainous national parks . Here you'll find Queensland's largest expanse of subtropical rainforest and - the main attraction - the Lamington Plateau , packed with powerfully beautiful scenery, animals and birds. Whether you're a day-tripper, veteran hiker or just fancy camping in the same spot for a few days, it's not to be missed. Closest to the coast, Springbrook 's waterfalls and undeveloped pockets at Mount Tamborine make easy day-trips and are thus the most-visited destinations, while tough tracks at the region's extremes in the Main Range remain the prerogative of experienced bushwalkers.
