Bus #311. The once picturesquely dilapidated Woolloomooloo Finger Wharf , dating from 1917, no longer handles immigrants or cargo. Plans to demolish it were met with fierce protests, but the compromise was its redevelopment into an upmarket complex comprising a marina, luxury residential apartments, the cool W Hotel , and some slick new restaurants with al fresco dining - Otto Ristorante Italiano, Man Ray and Shimbashi are the swankiest. The general public are free to wander along the wharf and even go inside: there's a free exhibition space with a changing theme in the centre, or you could check out the creative contemporary decor in the foyer of the W Hotel . Anyone can afford a cake and pastry at the Parisian-feeling Laurent Patissier, or you can grab a pie from Harry's and sit for free on the other side of the wharf.
