Self-guided tours Mon-Fri 10am-5pm, Sat 10am-2pm; 1hr; $12. Town Hall CityRail. Near the Centrepoint Tower the restored State Theatre on Market Street provides a pointed contrast. Step inside and take a look at the ornate and glorious interior of this picture palace which opened in 1929 - a lavishly painted, gilded and sculpted corridor leads to the lush, red and wood-panelled foyer. To see more - decorations include crystal chandeliers in the dress circle - you'll need to attend a concert or a play, or even the Sydney Film Festival , held here in June. Otherwise, pop into the beautiful little Retro Cafe , attached, for a coffee.
