Daily 9am-10.30pm, Sat until 11.30pm; viewing gallery and Skytour $19.80; www.centrepoint.com.au. Town Hall CityRail; Park Plaza Monorail. The landmark AMP Centrepoint Tower , on the corner of Market and Pitt streets, is the tallest poppy in the Sydney skyline - a giant golden gearstick thrusting up 305m. Its observation level is the highest in the entire southern hemisphere, though management must ruefully admit the tower's height is just beaten by the spire of the Sky Tower in Auckland, New Zealand, which is 23m taller. The 360-degree view from the observation level is especially fine at sunset, and on clear days you can even see the Blue Mountains, 100km away. It can get crowded on the observation level - to see the view in more peace, head down the stairs to the cafe, where you can enjoy floor-to-ceiling views along with a cup of tea. The observation deck is now packaged with the new Skytour on entry lift level, a tacky "virtual ride" introduction to a cliched Australia that lasts forty long minutes. Unfortunately the addition of Skytour has doubled the entry price to Centrepoint Tower and no single ticket is available.
