Open 24hr. Casino Light Rail; ferry to Pyrmont Bay Wharf; bus #443 or #888. Beyond the Maritime Museum on Pyrmont Bay is Star City , a spectacularly tasteless 24-hour casino which opened in the late 1990s. A lot of taxpayers' money was spent on the development - including the construction of the bus and light rail terminal underneath the building - much to the outrage of church groups and charities. As well as the casino, the building houses two theatres, fourteen restaurants and cafes, several theme bars, and a nightclub. It's certainly a place to come for late-night eats, with some good-value joints like the City Noodle Cafe , which stays open until 2am. Add to this ATMs, ice-cream stores, souvenir shops and small supermarkets, and a mini universe is created. The casino interior itself, entered through a fake sea cave grotto, is a clash of competing themes and patterns - giant palm sculptures, spinning prize cars, Aboriginal painting motifs on the ceiling, a carpet of Australian critters scurrying across a desert-coloured carpet, and an endless array of flashing poker machines. In contrast, nearby Pyrmont Bay Park is a shady spot to rest, and on the first Saturday of the month it hosts an early morning Growers Market (7am-11am).
