The southern half of Darling Harbour, just beyond Chinatown and the Entertainment Centre, is focused around Tumbalong Park , reached from the city via Liverpool Street. Backed by the Exhibition Centre, this is the "village green" of Darling Harbour and serves as a venue for open-air concerts and free public entertainment. The area surrounding it is perhaps Darling Harbour's most frenetic - at least on weekends during school holidays - as most of the attractions, including a free playground and a stage for holiday concerts, are aimed at children. For some peace and quiet head for the adjacent Chinese Garden . Beyond the children's playground, the Southern Promenade of Darling Harbour is dominated by the Panasonic IMAX Theatre (tel 9281 3300; $16.20 ). Its giant cinema screen - which at eight storeys high is said to be the world's largest - shows a constantly changing programme from their 100-film library, with an emphasis on scenic wonders. Other Darling Harbour visual onslaughts include Aquamagic , a free night-time laser show projected onto a semicircular water screen on Cockle Bay (Wed-Sun: summer 9pm, 9.30pm & 10pm; winter 7pm & 8pm; 25min). The Cockle Bay Wharf development extends along the Eastern Promenade of Darling Harbour from the IMAX cinema to Pyrmont Bridge , the world's first electrically operated swing span bridge, and now a pedestrian walkway across Cockle Bay, linking the two sides of the harbour.
