Food is more than just good in Oaxaca, and it's readily available on almost every street corner. The cheapest places to eat are in the markets - either in a section of the main market around 20 de Noviembre and Aldama, or in the new one by the second-class bus station - where you'll find excellent tamales. More formal but still basic restaurants are to be found in the same areas as the cheaper hotels, especially along Trujano . expensive as their position might lead you to expect - and there are plenty of simple places for everyday meals in the streets round about. Try the excellent, dirt-cheap licuado bar , frequented only by Mexicans, on 20 de Noviembre, opposite the bus ticket office, or the gorgeous cakes at Tartamiel in front of the cinema on Trujano. Oaxaca also provides welcome relief for vegetarians , who have been restricted to endless huevos and quesadillas in other parts of the country.
