Oaxaca's chief tourist office (Mon-Fri 9am-3pm & 6-8pm, Sat 9am-2pm; tel 9/516-0984, fax 516-1500; tourist information line on 9/516-0123) is inside the Palacio Municipal, on Independencia opposite the Alameda, with a second branch at 5 de Mayo 200, on the corner of Morelos (daily 9am-8pm; tel 9/516-4828). Both are extremely helpful and have contacts for apartment rentals and homestays, as well as supplying piles of maps and other handouts, including two free monthly English-language newspapers , the Oaxaca Times and Oaxaca , both of which carry topical features, events listings and ads for apartments and houses to rent. The Spanish-language newspaper Noticias has rental ads too and can be bought from newspaper vendors around the zocalo.
