Pottery is slightly cheaper at TONALA , a ceramics manufacturing centre some 8km beyond Tlaquepaque, but the trip is really only worthwhile if you are seriously planning to shop, although you might like to visit the Museo Nacional de la Ceramica , Constitucion 110 (Tues-Sun 10am-5pm; free), which has contemporary and a few antique pots from every Mexican state. Market days are Thursday and Sunday, when things are considerably more animated and the village is crammed with salespeople and shoppers -but be warned that ceramics sold on stalls tend to be rejects from the shops. Tonala's tourist office , at Tonaltecas 140 in the Casa de Artesanos (Mon-Fri 9am-8pm, Sat 9am-1pm; tel 3/683-0047), gives out free maps, useful for locating the various artisan workshops. To get to San Pedro Tlaquepaque from the centre of town, take a #275 or TUR bus heading south on 16 de Septiembre, or a trolley-bus south on Federalisimo. Some of these buses continue to Tonala, and both Tlaquepaque and Tonala are on the route taken by many of the buses that run between the new bus station and the centre.
