Eating
Of several friendly laid-back eating places, the best overall is the Talisman Cafe , 2112 2nd Ave (Mon-Sat 6am-11pm), which serves a range of full meals, and is also a spot to while away time over a cup of coffee. The Chocolate Claim at 305 Strickland (tel 667-2202) is a good, welcoming cafe for coffee, cakes and great chocolate. The No Pop Sandwich Shop , 312 Steele St (tel 668-3227), is altogether less cosy, but it's popular all the same and the food's fine. Along the avenue, at 411 Alexander St and 4th Avenue, there's the excellent and rather hippie Alpine Bakery (tel 668-6871; open daily), which is often crammed with campers and whose counter greets you with the Shakespearean sentiment "one feast, one house, one mutual happiness". The centrally located Sam n' Andy's Tex Mex Bar and Grill , 506 Main St (tel 668-6994), has good food and an outdoor patio, while the popular and lively pub-eatery, the Yukon Mining Company at the High Country Inn hotel, 4051 4th Ave (tel 667-4471), has locally brewed Chilkoot Brewing Company beers and barbecue food on the outdoor deck in summer. If you're feeling flush, two of the town's best restaurants are Pandas , 212 Main St (tel 667-2632), with Bavarian specialities, or Antonio's Vineyard , 202 Strickland St (tel 668-6266), which has Greek and Italian dishes (including pizzas) plus Arctic char and other fish and game dishes.
