Among the easiest targets for a quick taste of backwoods Vancouver is Lynn Canyon Park (open all year dawn to dusk), a quiet, forested area with a modest ravine and suspension bridge which, unlike the more popular Capilano Suspension Bridge , you don't have to pay to cross. Several walks of up to ninety minutes take you through fine scenery - cliffs, rapids, waterfalls and, naturally, the eighty-metre-high, bridge over Lynn Creek - all just twenty minutes from Lonsdale Quay. Take bus #228 from the quay to its penultimate stop at Peters Street, from where it's a ten-minute walk to the gorge; alternatively, take the less-frequent #229 Westlynn bus from Lonsdale Quay, which drops you about five minutes closer. Before entering the gorge, it's worth popping into the Ecology Centre , 3663 Park Rd, off Peters Road (March-Sept daily 10am-5pm; Oct-Feb Mon-Fri 10am-5pm, Sat & Sun noon-4pm; donation; tel 981-3103 or 987-5922), a friendly and informative place where you can pick up maps and pamphlets on park trails and wildlife.
