To the east, between the upper and lower parts of the old city, lies Parc Montmorency , its monuments recalling the historic figures of the area. This land was granted by Champlain to Canada's first agricultural settler and seigneur, Louis Hebert, and was later the meeting place of Quebec's first legislature in 1694. The park gives wonderful views of Quebec's port and its massive grain elevators, as does the flanking rue Port Dauphin, which becomes rue des Remparts, where the cannons that once protected the city still point across to Levis.
