Montreal's downtown lies roughly between rue Sherbrooke and rue St-Antoine to the north and south, rue St-Denis to the east and rue Peel to the west, though there's some overlap with the Golden Square Mile, and distinctions are not always clear, to be sure. Of the main streets, rue Ste-Catherine offers the most in the way of shopping, dining and entertainment, while boulevard de Maisonneuve is more business oriented. Even if you're not staying in one of the area's hotels, you'll spend at least some time in these parts, as it's here that you'll probably arrive - either at the southerly train station or the easterly bus station. Though the main sights are the high-rises and shopping complexes, the area is also dotted with old churches, museums and public squares filled with activity from buskers, artists and market vendors
