A few kilometres east from Rimouski along Hwy 132, the small town of POINTE-AU-PERE holds not much more than the Maison Lamontagne , 707 boul du Rivage (mid-May to mid-Oct daily 9am-6pm; $3), the oldest house in eastern Quebec; though there's not much inside that's worth your time or money, the gardens are free and quite educational. Further down the road, the Musee de la Mer (daily: late June to late Aug 9am-7pm; June & late Aug to mid-Oct 10am-5pm; $8.50) is housed in a modern building that resembles a tilting ship. The exhibit includes a 3D film on the Empress of Ireland , a luxury liner that sank offshore here in 1914, a disaster second only to the Titanic , with more than a thousand lives lost.
