Practicalities
With services south to Toronto and west to Winnipeg, Sudbury's principal train station - Sudbury Junction - is about 10km northeast of the town centre on Lasalle Boulevard. There are no buses into town - you have to take a taxi. Sudbury's second train station is in the town centre at Minto and Elgin streets, but the only service is the thrice weekly flagstop train across the bush to White River . The Greyhound bus depot is at 854 Notre Dame; some long-distance buses also stop at Science North. Sudbury tourist office is on the south side of town beside Hwy 69 (May-Aug daily 8.30am-8.30pm; Sept-April Mon-Wed 9am-6pm, Thurs & Fri 9am-8pm, Sat 10am-6pm; tel 705/673-4161 or 1-800/708-2505). With regard to accommodation , Sudbury has a number of proficient chain motels. Options include the Travelway Inn , 1200 Paris St (tel 705/522-1122 or 1-800/461-4883; $60-80), the nearby Travelodge , 1401 Paris St (tel 705/522-1100 or 1-800/578-7878; $60-80), and the Days Inn Sudbury , 117 Elm St W (tel 705/674-7517 or 1-800/325-2525; $60-80), a three-star place right in the middle of town. For food , The Red Lobster , 1600 Lasalle (tel 705/560-9825), does a good line in local pickerel and so does the more expensive Teklenburg's (tel 705/560-2662), just down the street at no.893. Italian food is inexpensive at Mingle's , 762 Notre Dame, a studenty pizza and pasta restaurant, whilst comfortable Pasta e Vino , 118 Paris St, has delicious home-made pasta.
