The Parkway Corridor
Along the Parkway Corridor, the location of trailheads and campsites is indicated by distances from the West Gate - as in "km 7". Ten day-hikes begin beside the road and of these the two-kilometre Beaver Pond Trail (km 45) is a rugged but easy trail that takes you past huge beaver dams, while the equally short but steeper Lookout Trail (km 39) gives a remarkable view of the park. For a longer trail with greater chances of spotting wildlife, the eleven-kilometre Mizzy Lake Trail (km 15) is recommended. Spare time also for the illuminating Algonquin Logging Museum (late May to early Oct daily 10am-5pm; free with day-pass), just inside the East Gate at km 54.5. Here, an easy 1.3km loop trail threads past some fascinating old logging leftovers, including a tugboat, a locomotive, sawlog camp and sleighs.
