A further 260km west it's a shock to come across LABRADOR CITY and neighbouring Wabush , two planned mining communities of wide streets and a couple of malls in the middle of nowhere; both were established in the 1950s and, with 10,500 people, make up the largest concentration of people in Labrador. Labrador City, as a terminus of the rail line from Sept-Iles, is a convenient gateway into Labrador's hinterland, but little else will bring you here. If you want to stay, accommodation is available at the Carol Inn , 215 Drake Ave (tel 944-7736, carolinn@cancom.net ; $80-175), and the Two Seasons Inn on Avalon Drive (tel 944-2661 or 1-800/670-7667, www.twoseasonsinn.nf.ca ; $80-100). The best choices for eating are the Terrace Dining Room in the Two Seasons Inn , and the Cornelius Restaurant in Bruno Plaza, 118 Humphrey Rd. Duley Lake Park , 10km from town, is a large camping area with over one hundred sites (day-use $4, overnight $9; late June to early Sept; tel 282-3660) and excellent facilities for swimming and boating.
