GOOSE BAY , located on the broad Churchill River as it opens into Hamilton Inlet, along with the adjacent former trapping community of HAPPY VALLEY , is Labrador's principal air-transport hub. Goose Bay itself had been, since World War II, primarily a military base for American, Canadian and NATO forces. Privatized in 1997, it's now a training ground for NATO troops to fly low-level sorties. Happy Valley, by contrast, is where most of the shops and restaurants are located.
