Information and Tours
Labrador is one of Canada's most forbidding areas, so any trip needs a fair amount of organization, and a great deal if you are heading for the hinterland. It is perhaps best to opt for one of the various tours available that, though expensive, make the exploration of Labrador's wilds as trouble-free as possible. Whichever way you go, it's important to take the strongest fly ointment you can find (workers in Labrador carry emergency syringes of the stuff) and heavy winter clothing, as even in the height of summer fierce snowstorms can occur. Maps, timetables and other information are available in advance from the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation , PO Box 8730, St John's, Newfoundland A1B 4K2 (tel 729-2830 or 1-800/563-6353, fax 729-1965). www.labradorstraits.nf.ca .
