Eating, Drinking and Entertainment
Saskatoon has a useful assortment of restaurants clustered in and around the downtown core and along the first couple of blocks of Broadway Avenue , which lies just across the river via the bridge at 4th Avenue South and 19th Street East. Broadway is the nearest thing the city has to a "cultural centre", the home of the Broadway Theatre and a handful of vaguely "alternative" shops and cafes. While you're in town, try a bottle of Great Western Beer (especially the Brewhouse brand), the product of a local factory whose future was threatened by the merger of two of Canada's giant brewing companies, Molson and Carling O'Keefe. The workers bought the factory themselves and can barely keep up with demand. It's also customary, while in town, to try a slice of Saskatoon berry pie , made with a local berry that has a taste similar to that of a blueberry.
