The City
Fifteen-minutes' walk from end to end, Regina's downtown business and shopping core is known as the Market Square , a simple gridiron bounded by Saskatchewan Drive and 13th Avenue to the north and south, Osler and Albert streets to the east and west. The rather mundane Regina Plains Museum (April-Sept daily 10am-4pm; Oct-March Mon-Fri 10am-4pm; $2), is within Market Square, on the fourth floor of the mall at 1801 Scarth St and 11th Avenue - its modest displays on the city's history are less diverting than the stories of the elderly volunteers who staff the museum. Exhibitions of innovative, and often controversial, contemporary art can be seen at the Dunlop Art Gallery , in the Public Library, west of the museum at 2311 12th Ave (Mon-Thurs 9.30am-9pm, Fri 9.30am-6pm, Sat 9.30am-5pm, Sun 1.30-5pm; free). If the museum and gallery has whetted your appetite you should visit the Antique Mall , the largest in western Canada, located beyond the railway tracks north of Market Square, at 1175 Rose St (Mon, Tues, Fri & Sat 10am-6pm, Wed & Thurs 10am-9.30pm, Sun 1.30-5pm; free). Immediately to the west of the Market Square district, across Albert Street, is Cathedral Village , with 13th Avenue as its heart. It's an old area with an eclectic mix of boutiques, coffee shops, craft shops and classy restaurants.
