Just 19km north of The Pas, the square-shaped lake and adjoining strip of coniferous forest that constitute Clearwater Lake Park are a favourite haunt of the region's anglers, who come here to catch northern pike, whitefish and highly prized lake trout. The park's amenities are concentrated along Route 287, a turning off Hwy 10, which runs along the lake's southern shore past The Pas airport. Beside the road there are four summer campsites ($12-14), and a couple of hunting lodges ($80-100/$100-125) that can be booked at the tourist booth in The Pas. If you're after a wilderness excursion , Clearwater Canoe Outfitters (tel 624-5606 or 624-5467, fax 624-5467, www.mts.net-linda/CLEAR.HTM ) rents out a full range of equipment and organizes canoe trips from $25 per day.
