If you're travelling under your own steam you'll probably have to stay overnight in PEACE RIVER , 486km from Edmonton and the starting point of Hwy 35. The largest town in the region, it has a handful of standard motels : the Peace Valley Inn, 9609-101st St (tel 624-2020 or 1-800/661-5897; $80-100, alongside a 24-hour Smitty's Restaurant, the central Best Canadian Motor Inn , 9810-98th St (tel 624-2586 or 1-800/461-9782; $40-60), and - probably the best choice - the large Traveller's Motor Hotel , on the northern edge of downtown at 9510-100th St (tel 624-3621 or 1-888/700-2264; $60-80). There's also the 84-site Peace River Lion's Club campsite with showers (tel 624-2120; $13; May-Oct) at Lion's Club Park on the west side of the river. The Greyhound bus depot is downtown at 9801-97th Ave (tel 624-1777) - the Crescent Motor Inn is two blocks south of here - while the tourist office operates out of the old station building at 9309-100th St (summer daily 10am-6pm; tel 624-2044) on the northern edge of the downtown core; the Peace Valley Inn and Traveller's Motor Hotel are both close by.
