Alberta's northern reaches are accessible only from Hwy 35 , still a route for the adventurous and one which, according to Albertans, shows the real side of the province: a world of redneck homesteads, buffalo burgers, and the sort of genuine C&W bars where strangers on a Friday night meet silent stares but wind up being invited to the hoedown anyway. You'll find such spots more or less everywhere along the route, but very little in the way of motels, garages or campsites, so come prepared. The road itself is well kept and straight, allowing healthier progress than on the more serpentine Alaska Highway to the west. Two Greyhound buses run daily from Edmonton to Peace River, and one all the way to Hay River (NWT), where you can make connections for Yellowknife and Fort Smith.
