Deservedly popular, old Strathcona C&W venue, cited as Canada's best country nightclub on a least five occasions by the Canadian Country Music Association. Free dance lessons Thurs 7.30pm to 9pm. O'Byrne's Irish Pub , 10616-82nd Ave (tel 414-67660. Old Strathcona's popular verion of an Irish pub has good food, live music, drink and reasonably authentic atmosphere. Sidetrack Cafe , 10333-112th St (tel 421-1326). Despite its disconcertingly bombed-out surroundings, this is the city's best live-music venue, where you're most likely to see hugely varied international and local acts of some standing. Yardbird Suite , 10203-86th Ave (tel 432-0428). Live groups nightly (10pm-2am) in the city's top jazz venue; admission is lower for the Tuesday-night jam session. Nonsmoking rule enforced on Friday. Yuk Yuk's , Bourbon St, Entrance 6, West Edmonton Mall (tel 481-9857). Assorted comedy acts every night, featuring well-known US and Canadian names. Wednesday is amateur night; Tuesday, hypnotist night.
