Practicalities
Trains don't stop anywhere in the park, but if you're travelling by bus you can ask to be let off at Yellowhead Pass or the Mount Robson Travel Infocentre (daily June to early Sept 9am-7pm; no phone), located at the Mount Robson viewpoint near the western entrance to the park. Most of the park's few other facilities are found near the infocentre: a cafe/garage (May-Sept) and two fully serviced commercial campsites - Emperor Ridge (tel 566-8438; $13.50; June-Sept), 300m north of Hwy 16 on Kinney Lake Road, and Mount Robson Lodge & Robson Shadows Campground (tel 566-9190, 566-4821 or 1-888/566-4821; $14.50; mid-May to mid-Oct), 25 nice sites on the Fraser River side of Hwy 16, 5km west of the park boundary. The 144-site Mount Robson Provincial Park Campground (tel 566-4325; both $17.50; April-Oct) comprises two closely adjacent campsites - Robson River and Robson Meadows - and is situated further afield on Hwy 16, 22km north of Valemount. It offers hots showers and flush toilets and reservations can be made in advance . Another park campsite with the same name and the tag "Lucerne" (which has no reservations, dry toilets only and no showers; $12; May-Sept) is situated 10km west of the Alberta border on Hwy 16, just west of the eastern boundary of the Mount Robson Provincial Park. The only other beds in or near the park are the eighteen log-sided riverfront units (some with kitchens: $5 extra) at the Mount Robson Lodge (tel 566-4821 or 1-888/566-4821; $80-100 May-Oct) that owns the Robson Shadows Campground (meals, river rafting, helicopter tours and horse riding are available nearby); and the cabins belonging to Mount Robson Adventure Holidays (tel 566-4351; $60-80; June-Sept), 16km east of the infocentre (towards Jasper), though preference for these may go to people signed up for the company's canoeing and hiking day-trips. Backcountry camping in the park is only permitted at seven wilderness campsites dotted along the Berg Lake Trail : to use these you have to register and pay an overnight fee at the infocentre.
