Winter In Banff
Banff National Park is as enticing in winter as it is the rest of the year. If you're a skier or snowboarder then it's a virtual paradise, for skiing here is some of the best and most varied in North America. Yet the park offers the full gamut of winter activities, embracing everything from skating, ice-fishing and toboggan trips to dog-sledding, snowshoeing and sleigh rides. Skiing or snowboarding, though, are the big draws, and of Alberta's six world-class resorts, three are in the park, one in Lake Louise and two close to Banff - Mount Norquay and Sunshine Village . On top of great snow and pristine runs, you get crisp air, monumental mountains, sky-high forests, and prices and space that make a mockery of Europe's crowded and exorbitant winter playgrounds. You're also pretty certain of snow, sensational views, comfortable hotels and plenty of nightlife. However, what the brochures don't tell you is that here - as in Lake Louise - it can be bitterly cold for virtually all of the skiing season.
