Banff is rightly proud of its two prize gondolas (known elsewhere as cable cars). High-price tickets buy you crowds, great views and commercialized summits, but also the chance to do some high-level hiking without the slog of an early-morning climb; they'll also give you a glimpse of the remote high country if you're short of time or unable to walk the trails. The best times to take a ride are early morning or evening, when wildlife sightings are more likely, and when the play of light gives an added dimension to the views.
