One of the prettiest stretches of Las Americas' promenade is that by the narrow and rocky Playa de Troya , one of the few natural stretches of coastline on this part of the island. Though few visitors spend time here, it's popular with local surfers and bodyboarders who come to dodge rocks when the surf's good. At the northern end of Playa de Troya are two commercial centres, CC Vernoicas and CC Starco - the centre of Las Americas and its least attractive part. By day there's not much going on in the bars and fast-food outlets here, but by night this area is packed with clubbers and touts . To the north of this area are two very popular, but unattractive beaches - Playa Las Cuevitas and Playa del Bobo - where, in addition to the usual water sports, the Escuela del Vela Las Americas (tel 922/792 050) teaches windsurfing and sailing; courses for beginners start from around 150.
