Getting There
With regular, inexpensive flights from almost all their international airports, it could hardly be easier to get from the UK and Ireland to Tenerife. The majority of flights to Tenerife are charters serving the needs of the package-holiday industry, but there are some scheduled flights available. There are no direct flights, however - and few package deals - from North America, Australia or New Zealand, though there are good deals from each to London, Madrid and Barcelona, from where you can easily get onward connections to the Canary Islands. If you're not pushed for time, it may be worth trying for a cheap flight to southern Spain, from where you can catch the weekly ferry from Cadiz to Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Good weather year round means that there's really no off-season in the Canaries, though fares do go up, and accommodation is harder to find, from May to September and over Christmas and the New Year.
