Practicalities
Both the train and bus stations are located on the opposite side of the River Sola from the town centre, which is a ten-minute walk away along ul. Marchewskiego. The tourist office is on the Rynek, at no. 12 (tel 033/861 4310). Hotel options in town are scarce: the Nad Sola , ul. Tetmajera 75 (tel 033/861 0310; 90-120zl/GBP16-22/US$22.50-30), is probably your best bet, a medium-sized modern place squarely aimed at business types, although it's hard to find - near the river 2km south of the centre. The only central option is the Roma , ul. Kosciuszki 12 (tel 033/861 0443; 60-90zl/GBP11-16/US$15-22.50), which only has six rooms and is often full. The youth hostel is right next to the station at ul. Ks. Slonki 4 (tel 033/861 2639), while the campsite , Debina , is well to the south of town, at ul. Kopernika 4 (tel 033/861 4888), near the Sporysz train station. There are several decent restaurants along the main drag, ul. Kosciuszki, and another good one, Ratuszowa , on the corner of the market square at ul. Mickiewicza 1 - an eclectic place which serves up anything from Polish to Chinese. Every August, there's a festival of local folklore when you'll see colourful traditional costumes being worn, the women's outfits especially rich in lace and embroidery.
